The newest addition to the Mezze, Inc. restaurant group is allium, situated in the center of Great Barrington's bustling downtown. Drawn on inspiration from the English countryside and its juxtaposition of formality + freedom, allium's design elements rest in the balance. Thanks are due, in part, to environmental + green designer, Rip Gibson, with whom Nancy Thomas has collaborated on each Mezze, Inc. project. Throughout allium's build out, environmentally-safe standards were practiced from the selection of low v.o.c. paints and ecologically harvested wood-sources to the incorporation of recycled materials into design of the restaurant. Environmental integrity is a fundamental idea at allium. Chef Joe Nastro, who has a background in Animal Science, leads the allium kitchen and takes great care to provide local and seasonal ingredients for his New American menu. Allium merges Berkshire ideals with the high standards of urban amenities in a country setting.
